Restylane, JUVEDERM™ and Perlane
To shape lips and smooth wrinkles and folds
Smoothing wrinkles and folds or giving your lips a fuller, more sensuous form can be easily accomplished using Restylane, Perlane and JUVEDERM™.
Restylane, Perlane and JUVEDERM™ are gels created from stabilized hyaluronic acid, a natural material found in our own bodies. These gels bind with water then slowly break down and are then absorbed by the body naturally. In the skin they create volume, resulting in a natural, youthful appearance. Most experts agree that Restylane, Perlane, and JUVEDERM™ are the products of choice for filling most wrinkles and shaping lips.
Restylane and JUVEDERM™ Ultra are used for wrinkle correction and lip enhancements. Perlane and JUVEDERM™ Ultra Plus are used for shaping facial contours, correcting deep folds and for volume augmentation of the lips. Typically lip treatments last about 4-6 months, while smile lines and folds last 4-12 months! Touch-ups are sometimes needed 2-4 weeks after a treatment to "fine-tune" your results.
Preparation for your treatment
To reduce discomfort with this treatment, we recommend you apply Betacaine ointment before your treatment. If you can arrive 30 minutes before your appointment and we can apply the ointment here in the office. We will apply a very thick layer to the area being treated.
To reduce the risk of bruising, you may want to avoid aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil), and similar medications for one to two weeks before your treatment.
Let us know before your treatment if you have a history of herpes (cold sores) in this area. We can prescribe a medication that will help prevent an outbreak of this.
To reduce bruising you may purchase Arnica Montana tablets at GNC or other health food stores. Starting 1 day before your treatment take as directed on bottle and continue for 2-3 days.
During your treatment: To make lip treatments more comfortable, we may inject some lidocaine anesthetic into your lips immediately before your treatment. These injections are nearly painless and will make your Restylane, Perlane or JUVEDERM™ treatment almost painless also. These products are then injected with a very fine needle into the desired areas. Another option is applying Betacaine ointment prior to treatment and leaving on for 30 minutes to minimize discomfort.
What to expect after your treatment: After injection, some common, temporary, injection-related reactions might occur: tenderness, redness, itching, bruising, bumps, pain or swelling. If any of these occur, they typically resolve within a few days. Occasionally they can last up to 7-10 days after lip injections. We recommend planning your treatments at least one week before any special events.
Aftercare: No special care is needed after treatment, however we advise you not to massage the area for several hours after treatment, as this may displace the gel. If swelling occurs after lip treatment, sleeping on two pillows for the first two nights may help. Ice may also help.
Cost: Syringes typically range in price from $350 to $600 each, depending on which material is used and how much is in the syringe. Depending on the areas treated, more than one syringe may be needed to create the best look possible. We offer discounts if more than one syringe is used during the same visit.
